Dr. Rebecca Malope is the undisputed Queen of Gospel in South Africa. Born in 1968 near Nelspruit, she overcame a childhood illness that briefly put her in a wheelchair. She moved to Johannesburg to chase her dream as a teen. Her big break came in 1987 when she won the Shell Road to Fame talent contest. She started in pop, but she soon found her true calling in gospel music alongside producer Sizwe Zako.
Her career spans over thirty years with 36 albums to her name. She has sold more than 10 million records globally and earned scores of multi-platinum titles. She broke major barriers, including singing at Nelson Mandela's inauguration in 1994. Millions also know her face from television as the longtime host of It's Gospel Time. In 2021, South Africa honored her legendary voice with the Order of Ikhamanga in Silver.
