Kalenga Nzazi Vivi was a legendary Congolese musician and a pivotal figure in the golden era of East African Rhumba. Born in 1953, he rose to prominence as a founding member and lead vocalist of the iconic band Orchestre Les Mangelepa, which formed in Kenya in 1976. Known for his smooth vocals and charismatic stage presence, Kalenga contributed to some of the group's most enduring hits, including "Suzanna" and "James Osogo." His work helped define the Zilizopendwa style, blending Congolese Lingala influences with Kenyan sensibilities to create a sound that dominated the charts across the region for decades. Following his passing in 2023, he remains celebrated as one of the great masters of African popular music.
