Mbuta Likasu Biography

MBUTA LIKASU comes from Congo Brazzaville. his real name is Ngimbi Malonda, his stage name became so famous in the mid-1990s because he combined music and comedy.

He started his career first not as a musician, but as a comedian back in 1992 in Brazzaville. As young guys around the Ouenze suburbs were forming musical groups, Mbuta was always around doing comedy parts on occasions like funerals and weddings following some of his musical wannabe comrades... in 1993 some of his friends eventually formed the group that came to be known as Extra musica! but he never ventured into music despite having very good vocal abilities.

In 1997, He came up with a full musical 10 tracks album SAUVE QUI PEUT, backed by a fully flagged band he called Staff International with members like Wali Kikomba (later went to Wenge Tonya Tonya)..this album was an instant success! thanks to the combination of Comedy and music!

1999 saw the release of his second album ATTENTION OBUS an 8-track album that became a top seller again. Mbuta Likasu was now a household name.

Then after the 2000 tours came the ten years of silence caused mainly by the disagreement between him and his producer due to breach of contract issues- the law barred Mbuta from releasing any album until the expiry of the breached contract in this case 10 years--it seems Mbuta was naive about this issues!

During this time he relocated to South Africa, doing small shows until 2014 when he came up with his 3rd, 18-track album titled CARNAVAL, but poor promotion made this album flop in the market though a very good album!

Today Mbuta Likasu has other business interests, working between South Africa and Brazzavile.
