MOSE-KONZO

November 18, 2024 - 05:07 AM

MOSE-KONZO this is a mid-1970s classic by Tabuley's Afrisa, one that exemplifies the depth of talent at this orchestra that had at the time, a few years ago made a maiden appearance for an African band at the famed Olympia in Paris.

The soloist in this song was Maitre Dizzy aka Pierre Mandjekou Lengo. He had joined this band after stint with his own Kossa Kossa.

He was at this time Afrisa's first choice soloist but the band also had Dino Vangu. The band had two rhythmsts as well around this time, Bopol and Lokassa. Definitely, at that time Lokassa was the master of the accompaniment, as the Congolese call the rhythm guitar.

Lokassa did the rhythm of the song, as Bopol took up the mi-solo role. Bopol was equally good on bass. The bassist here was none other than Philo Kola. Shaba Kahamba was yet to join the band.

This song was composed by Mangwana who did the vocals with Tabuley. The drummer was Ringo Kandiga (in dholuo his name means 'fast like a bicycle'). A Micorason did the percussions.

The sax team of Modero Mekanis yoked with ex Negro superstar Empopo Loway did the magic and the trumpets were done by Vieux Biolo, Jean Trompette and Milanda Baramy.

This is the team that traveled to Lagos for the Festac 1977 festival as a mass choir named ONAZA and most of the members remained in West Africa to create Africa All Stars, the much successful band that brought back to Kinshasa elements of high life who've was very popular then, in the region.
