Established in 1932, the Dar es Salaam Jazz Band (famously known as Dar Jazz) was one of the cornerstone "big bands" of the Tanzanian muziki wa dansi scene. While many bands of that era took the "Jazz" moniker from Congolese-Zairean influences, their sound was a sophisticated blend of guitar-driven melodies, brass arrangements, and the rhythmic pulse of the 1960s and 70s.
