Orchestra Maquis Original is a legendary "muziki wa dansi" powerhouse that originated in Lubumbashi in 1970 before permanently settling in Dar es Salaam in 1972. Renowned for their disciplined cooperative structure and mastery of Kiswahili lyrics, the band became a bridge between Congolese Rumba and East African sensibilities, earning a massive following across Tanzania and Kenya. Led by influential figures like Chinyama Chianza and Nguza "Viking" Mbangu, the group was famous for its evolving "mitindo" (dance styles), most notably Kamanyola Bila Jasho, and produced timeless hits such as Karubandika, solidifying their legacy as one of the most sophisticated and enduring guitar based ensembles in African music history.
