AFRISA INTERNATIONAL HIT LIST.

In November, we honor the legacy of the legendary Tabuley Rochereau, a celebrated figure in the world of African music and the driving force behind the iconic Afrisa International Band. Known for his captivating vocals and innovative blend of traditional Congolese rhythms with modern influences, Tabuley played a pivotal role in popularizing African music across the globe. His band, Afrisa International, became a beacon of musical excellence, showcasing the richness of African culture through vibrant performances and unforgettable melodies. As we celebrate his life and contributions, we reflect on the enduring impact he has made on the music scene and the countless artists he has inspired.

PAKA WEWE

This is an Afrisa International classic, composed by the band's soloist Mpanga Brazzos (left in the photo)
The soloist is legend Dino Vangu (right in the photo)
The singer is Songbird Marie Claire Mboyo aka M’bilia Bel.
The rhythmist is Dave Makondele.
The bassist is Shaba Kahamba.
The singer is Songbird Marie Claire Mboyo aka M’bilia Bel.
Remember Brazzos Mpanga is the man behind all these Swahili songs of Afrisa in the 80s.

WENDENDA

It is a great composition by trumpeter Kebart Kabasele.
He does great trumpets in the song, harmonizing Mekanisi Modero's sax.
M’bilia sings as Dave Makondele does rhythm, Dino Vangu does solo and Brazzos Mpanga does mi-solo.
Shaba Kahamba is on bass.
Kebart Kabaselle is the man who did.

PANGOULA (67)
This is a Sam Mangwana composition. Mangwana sang with Tabuley between 1966 and 1968, when he quit with soloist Guvano and others to create Festival Des Maquisards.
Here the soloist is definitely Guvano aka Jean Paul Vangu.
The rhythmist could be Johny Bokassa and the mi soloist is my good friend Mzee Faugus Izeidi.
The bassist of the day was veteran African Jazz contrabass player Joseph Mwena.
I am not sure Prof Larry Gumbe will agree with me that Mangwana's style of singing fitted more in African Fiesta/Afrisa than OKJ.

MOSE KONZO
This is a mid-70s song composed by Tabuley himself.
It features Lokassa Ya Mbongo on rhythm and my good friend Maestro Dizzy Mandjeku on solo.
The others are Bovick Shama on bass and Bopol Mansiamina on mi-solo.
The drummer is Ringo Kandiaga.
Mekanisi Modero is on sax

MAKFE

This one was composed by a solo legend, my good Mzee Michelino Mavatiku Visi.
Features Lokassa Ya Mbongo on rhythm and Bovick Shamar on bass.
Singing is Tabuley himself.
