Poxi Presha (1971–2005), born Prechard Pouka Olang, was a transformative figure in Kenyan hip-hop who challenged the status quo by rapping in Dholuo, effectively moving the genre away from Western imitation toward local authenticity. Known as the "Bad Boy of Kenyan Music," he released his landmark debut album Total Balaa in 1997, featuring hits like "Dhako" and "Otonglo Time" that blended urban rap with traditional influences. Beyond his music, Poxi became a fierce advocate for artists' rights, founding Talent Works and Rights Enforcement Ltd (TAWREL) to lead a relentless crusade against music piracy and exploitation by producers. His legacy remains a cornerstone of the Kenyan music industry, reflecting both the "Golden Era" sounds and the fight for the professional dignity of local artists.
