Sebigeri Paul, professionally known as Mimi La Rose, is a legendary Rwandan musician and a cornerstone of the iconic Orchestre Impala de Kigali, which he helped found in 1974. A key architect of the "Golden Era" of Rwandan music, he spent decades blending Congolese Rhumba, Soukous, and traditional rhythms into a unique style that resonated across East and Central Africa. Following the loss of several founding members during the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, Paul became the primary steward of the group’s legacy; after working for the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR), he spearheaded the band's revival in 2012 alongside new lead singer Dieudonné Munyanshoza. Today, he remains a revered figure in the Igisope (nostalgic oldies) genre, celebrated for his role in preserving Rwanda's rich musical heritage and his commitment to organic, complex arrangements over modern commercial trends.
